People Power Party opposes military academy merger

Jang Dong-hyeok, leader of the People Power Party, has expressed strong opposition to the government's plan to merge the land, sea, and air military academies. During a visit to the Air Force Academy in Cheongju, Jang criticized the proposed consolidation as a reckless move that threatens South Korea's national security and future.

Jang argued that the rapid push for integration lacks professional consideration and could lead to a decline in military strength. He pledged to use all available means to block the merger, describing the initiative as a “defense scandal.”

Supporting this stance, National Assembly Defense Committee member Lim Jong-deuk noted that the merger lacks public support and is being pushed through without proper procedural legitimacy. Additionally, lawmaker Na Kyung-won warned that the policy could lead to the dismantling of security alliances and the constitutional order.
