People Power Party reshuffles Jeju leadership
The People Power Party is undergoing a significant reorganization of its local party committee chairpersons in Jeju ahead of the next general election. The process has resulted in varying outcomes across different districts.
In Jeju City Gap, the party is currently conducting an open recruitment process following the resignation of former chairperson Ko Kwang-cheol. Three candidates—former provincial lawmaker Kang Kyung-moon, four-term provincial lawmaker Kim Hwang-guk, and former Jeju Autonomous Police Commissioner Park Ki-nam—have applied and are awaiting interview evaluations. If multiple candidates pass, a party member vote may be held.
In Jeju City Eul, the re-election of Chairperson Kim Seung-uk by the local committee was reportedly rejected by the Jeju Provincial Party's steering committee. Under party regulations, the final appointment must be confirmed by the central party's supreme council.
In Seogwipo, former chairperson Ko Ki-cheol was re-appointed as chairperson after losing his position due to his candidacy in a by-election. His selection has passed the provincial party's steering committee and has been reported to the central party.
