People’s Bank integrates share trading into mobile wallet

People’s Bank has marked a digital transformation milestone by ringing the opening bell at the Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE). Through a partnership with Lanka Securities (Pvt) Ltd (LSL), the bank has integrated share trading facilities into its flagship mobile wallet application, People’s Pay.

The initiative allows users to access banking and equity trading services on a single digital platform. Features include transferring funds between bank accounts and Central Depository System (CDS) accounts, opening new CDS accounts, viewing investment portfolios alongside bank balances, and managing equity transactions within the app.

People’s Bank Chairman Chandana Guniyangoda stated that the initiative aligns with the government’s digitalization agenda to promote financial inclusion. CEO Clive Fonseka noted that the integration aims to enhance customer convenience and expand access to investment opportunities.
