People's Bank of China increases refinancing by 5 billion yuan for Xizang relief

The People's Bank of China (PBOC) has increased its refinancing quota by 5 billion yuan (approximately 737 million US dollars) to support the Xizang autonomous region following a devastating mudslide. The funds are specifically designated to assist agriculture and small businesses during relief and reconstruction efforts.

The mudslide occurred on Wednesday morning at the Gyirong pass in Xizang county, near the border with Nepal. Reports indicate that the disaster has resulted in three deaths and left 558 people missing.

In response to the emergency, a rescue team of 141 personnel has arrived at the Gyirong border crossing. Additionally, major Chinese insurance providers, including PICC and Ping An P&C, have activated emergency response mechanisms to facilitate rapid claims processing and financial support for those affected.
