PDP leadership crisis intensifies over Nyesom Wike

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is facing escalating internal conflict regarding the loyalty of Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike. Party chieftain Emmanuel Ogidi has warned that disciplinary action may be taken against members accused of undermining the party, specifically alleging that Wike is serving the interests of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) rather than the PDP.

Simultaneously, a faction of the PDP led by Kabiru Tanimu Turaki has rejected Wike’s calls for party members to support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027. The Turaki-led group described Wike’s proposed ‘rainbow coalition’ as a threat to democracy that could lead to an ‘electoral monarchy.’ The faction characterized Wike and similar members as pretenders who work for the governing party while claiming to be in the opposition.

As the party prepares for the 2027 general elections, leadership disputes and legal battles continue. The Turaki faction is currently awaiting a Court of Appeal judgment in its bid to secure control of the party’s leadership.
