People’s National Congress holds national congress in Maldives

The ruling People’s National Congress (PNC) has commenced its national congress in Malé, running from Tuesday through Friday. President Mohamed Muizzu, who serves as the party president, officially inaugurated the event at the Social Centre.

The congress aims to address key administrative matters, including the election of the party’s Higher Council and vice presidents. Candidates for the vice presidency include several high-ranking officials, such as Fisheries Minister Ahmed Shiyam, Economic Minister Mohamed Saeed, and Local Government Authority CEO Mohamed Nimal.

During his opening address, President Muizzu emphasized that the party’s core philosophy is built upon three pillars: stability, development, and security. He urged newly elected council members to prioritize national interests over personal interests and to maintain unity to strengthen the party’s role in nation-building. The PNC, currently the largest political party in the Maldives, reports a membership exceeding 70,000 people.
