People's Party in Cuenca to defend Ceuta and Melilla sovereignty
The People's Party (PP) municipal group in the Cuenca City Council will present a motion in the upcoming September plenary session to defend the sovereignty of Ceuta and Melilla. The motion expresses support and solidarity with the autonomous city of Ceuta following recent episodes of mass irregular border crossings.
According to PP president Bea Jiménez, the proposal calls on the central government to immediately deploy extraordinary resources to restore public order and ensure the fundamental rights of the population in Ceuta. The text emphasizes that national sovereignty over Ceuta and Melilla is “indisputable and non-negotiable” based on historical, legal, and constitutional realities.
The initiative also requests the immediate identification of all individuals who entered the city irregularly to facilitate their return. Jiménez noted that local and autonomous governments cannot assume state-level competencies regarding security, borders, and foreign policy, and urged a firm stance toward Morocco to ensure compliance with international commitments.
