People's Party leader targets Election Commission and Student Loan Fund

Natthaphong Ruengpanyawut, leader of the People's Party and Leader of the Opposition, has announced plans to submit a petition to the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) regarding the Election Commission of Thailand (ECT). The party alleges misconduct and failure to perform duties honestly during the Senate election process. The legal team is currently refining the petition to include new evidence and testimonies to ensure it is comprehensive. Additionally, the opposition is preparing a no-confidence motion against the government, expected to be tabled between October and early November.

Separately, the People's Party shadow cabinet, alongside student and parent representatives, is calling on the government to address a liquidity crisis within the Student Loan Fund (SLF). They are urging the government to allocate 7 billion baht from the central budget to prevent students from dropping out of the education system. The crisis is attributed to legislative changes that reduced interest rates and penalties, alongside reduced government subsidies. Surveys indicate that approximately 45% of affected students may be forced to withdraw or suspend their studies if funding is not secured.
