People's Party MP demands 100 billion baht cut to Thailand's 2027 budget

Sirikanya Tansakul, a Member of Parliament and deputy leader of the People's Party, has called for significant reductions to the 2027 fiscal year budget, which is currently set at 3.788 trillion baht. She is proposing an additional cut of 100 billion baht to create fiscal space for other national obligations.

During parliamentary debates, Tansakul criticized the inefficiency of certain expenditures, such as training, seminars, and international travel. She noted that while some cuts were made during the subcommittee stage, they often resulted in reducing funds reserved for court-ordered payments rather than addressing wasteful spending.

Furthermore, Tansakul warned that the People's Party will vote against the budget in its second reading if the government fails to implement necessary reductions. She specifically highlighted concerns regarding the central budget and potential overlaps with loan funds, as well as the allocation of funds for addressing issues in Southern Thailand.
