People's Party MP reports AI disinformation in Nonthaburi election
Natthacha Boonchaiinsawat, a People's Party MP, has filed a complaint with the Election Commission of Thailand regarding the use of AI-generated videos to discredit Dechrat Sukkamnerd during the Nonthaburi Provincial Administrative Organization election campaign.
The deceptive videos reportedly use the color orange and the number 4, which is associated with Dechrat, and incorporate the logo of the dissolved Move Forward Party to create ambiguity and mislead voters. The clips contain false claims suggesting that if Dechrat is elected, he will cancel existing public health and education programs, including the 30-baht healthcare scheme. Dechrat has denied these claims, stating he intends to continue effective existing policies.
The People's Party legal team has identified the account responsible for the posts and intends to pursue legal action against those who post and share the content under the Computer Crimes Act. The party is calling on the Election Commission to increase oversight of social media to prevent a surge in fake news and disinformation during the election period.
