People's Party Shadow Cabinet criticizes flood relief and economic planning

The People's Party Shadow Cabinet has raised several critical issues regarding the Thai government's management of natural disasters and economic preparedness.

Regarding flood relief, the Shadow Cabinet urged the government to release water drainage plans for eastern provinces, noting that areas such as Chachoengsao, Prachinburi, Nakhon Nayok, and Pathum Thani have faced prolonged flooding for nearly a month. Concerns were also raised about delays in compensation payments via the ‘Tang Rat’ application and a lack of coordination from the Ministry of Interior regarding drainage plans for the Bang Pakong River basin.

On the economic front, following the IMF and World Bank annual meetings, the Shadow Cabinet criticized the government for failing to provide a clear employment strategy to address future labor market risks. They also expressed concern over the government's focus on GDP figures, suggesting that efforts to adjust GDP calculation methods to show higher growth distract from the urgent need to address rising unemployment risks and the lack of public participation in international economic dialogues.
