People's United Party selects Belize City mayoral candidate

The People's United Party (PUP) has finalized its candidate slate for the March 2027 Belize City municipal elections following a delegate convention held on Sunday. Eluide Donovan Miller secured the mayoral nomination, defeating Allan Pollard Jr. with 427 votes to 341.

In addition to the mayoral race, the convention selected candidates for nineteen councillor seats. Kristian Alpuche received the highest number of votes for a councillor position with 564. The selection process was overseen by Presiding Officer John Bernard Wade and several representatives from the Order of Distinguished Service.

The convention, which involved 787 delegates, has prompted discussions regarding the internal party mechanics and the influence of the small electorate in determining candidates for the country's largest municipality. Following this event, the PUP intends to hold endorsement conventions for slates in Orange Walk, San Pedro, Dangriga, and Belmopan.
