Chelsea signs Pep Chavarría from Rayo Vallecano
Chelsea FC has officially completed the signing of 28-year-old Spanish left-back Pep Chavarría from Rayo Vallecano. The transfer, valued at approximately €19 million in fixed fees plus €2 million in add-ons, secures Chavarría on a five-year contract running until 2031.
Chavarría was identified by manager Xabi Alonso as a direct replacement for Marc Cucurella, who recently joined Real Madrid. The defender arrives with significant La Liga experience, having made 125 appearances for Rayo Vallecano and participating in their recent UEFA Conference League final run.
The move also provides a substantial financial boost to Chavarría’s former clubs in Spain. Under FIFA’s solidarity mechanism, UE Figueres and UE Olot are set to receive approximately €500,000 and €200,000 respectively, funds that represent a significant portion of their annual budgets.
