Lamine Yamal: Figures urge caution against Messi comparisons

Football figures and officials are weighing in on the rapid rise of Barcelona talent Lamine Yamal, with many cautioning against comparing the young player to Lionel Messi.

Barcelona midfielder Pedri urged that Yamal should not be compared to anyone, stating that the player should focus on his own development and enjoy the game without the pressure of comparisons. Similarly, Pep Guardiola noted that while Yamal possesses extraordinary maturity and talent, comparing him to Messi is ‘impossible’ because the Argentine’s sustained excellence over a decade belongs to another dimension.

Ahead of Barcelona’s Champions League match against Paris Saint-Germain, PSG manager Luis Enrique also dismissed comparisons, calling Messi the ‘best of all time’ and suggesting Yamal’s goal should be to become the best version of himself.

In a show of long-term commitment, Barcelona President Joan Laporta expressed total confidence in Yamal’s future at the club. Laporta described the player as a ‘genius’ and a true product of La Masia, stating that the club is not worried about his future and views him as essential to the team’s long-term plans.
