Pep Guardiola bids farewell to Manchester City after decade of trophies
Pep Guardiola will manage Manchester City for the last time on Sunday as the club faces Aston Villa in his final Premier League match. The Spaniard announced he will step down at the end of the season, ending a ten‑year spell that produced 20 trophies, including six league titles. The Etihad Stadium’s newly expanded North Stand will be renamed the “Pep Guardiola Stand” and his 94‑year‑old father is expected to attend the ceremony.
Ahead of his departure, Guardiola reflected on his biggest regret at the club: the decision to drop long‑serving goalkeeper Joe Hart in 2016. He said he should have given Hart a chance to prove himself before moving on to other options, a choice he now describes as a personal mistake.
The farewell also marks the final appearances of long‑term players Bernardo Silva and John Stones, while City already secured the FA Cup and Carabao Cup earlier in the season.
