Manchester City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak revealed that Pep Guardiola hinted at resigning about a hundred times during his ten‑year spell at the club before finally stepping down at the end of the 2025‑26 season. Guardiola left after winning six Premier League titles, a Champions League and a total of 20 trophies with City.

Al Mubarak described himself as Guardiola’s “psychiatrist”, saying he had to convince the Spanish manager to stay each time he said he would quit. “In the downs, he must have quit 100 times,” he told club media, adding that when the manager finally decided the time was right, the chairman did not fight the decision.

The club is preparing to appoint Enzo Maresca, a former Chelsea manager and Guardiola’s former assistant, as the next head coach. Al Mubarak expressed confidence that the upcoming appointment will keep City’s winning DNA intact.
