Pep Guardiola bids farewell as Manchester City loses to Aston Villa

Pep Guardiola announced his departure from Manchester City after a decade that delivered 20 major trophies – six Premier League titles, a Champions League, domestic cup double and numerous other honors. His final Premier League match took place on 24 May 2026 at the Etihad Stadium, where City were beaten 2‑1 by Aston Villa after leading through Antoine Semenyo; Ollie Watkins scored a brace in the second half.

The result was eclipsed by a stadium‑wide tribute. Thousands of fans lined the streets for a parade that showcased the club’s silverware, and a guard of honour was given to the departing players Bernardo Silva, who captained the side in his last appearance, and John Stones, who also received a standing ovation.
