Pepe Colubi reveals diagnosis of Parkinson's disease

Spanish writer, journalist, and humorist Pepe Colubi has revealed that he has been living with Parkinson's disease for approximately two and a half years. He shared the news during a radio interview with Julia Otero on the program ‘Julia en la Onda’ to help raise visibility for the condition.

Colubi noted that his initial symptoms included fatigue and blood pressure fluctuations, which were first attributed to stress. The diagnosis was eventually confirmed by a neurologist after he noticed a tremor in his right hand while being treated for bursitis in his elbow. Given his family history, as his father also suffered from the disease, he sought neurological consultation.

He explained that he had kept the diagnosis private to avoid being overanalyzed by others, but decided to speak out to normalize the situation. He described the decision to go public as a way to change his relationship with the illness, moving from a state of concealment to one of openness.
