PEPE token outflow and Coldcard wallet hack highlight crypto market turbulence
On a single day, 4.54 trillion PEPE tokens were withdrawn from exchanges, marking the largest net outflow for the meme‑coin since November 2023. Analysts at on‑chain data firm Santiment said the move could reduce short‑term selling pressure, but the token remains 35 % below its level three months earlier despite a modest July rebound.
Separately, a group of hackers breached the Coldcard hardware wallet on 30 July, stealing 1,596 BTC from 7,300 addresses – an estimated €89‑114 million. The attack exploited the wallet’s replace‑by‑fee feature and, according to Coinkite CEO Rodolfo Novak, may have been aided by AI‑driven bug detection. Coinkite promptly warned users to relocate their funds.
Both incidents underscore heightened volatility and security concerns within the cryptocurrency ecosystem, especially for Dutch users who comprise a significant audience for the reports.
