Peppa Pig Wins UK Copyright Battle Over Wolfoo Videos
A UK High Court judge ordered that every Wolfoo video be removed worldwide after finding that the Vietnamese‑based studio SConnect had copied audio clips from the Peppa Pig series. The judgment, delivered in London, requires the takedown of all Wolfoo videos by 16:00 BST on Monday and applies across the United Kingdom, the European Union and all 166 World Trade Organization member states, including the United States and Vietnam.
The court examined 92 English‑language Wolfoo videos and found audio from Peppa Pig in each, with a similar rate of infringement in foreign‑language versions. The plaintiff side included Hasbro, former Peppa Pig owner Entertainment One and creators Astley Baker Davies Ltd. The ruling is described as a “significant judgment” for intellectual‑property enforcement, potentially curbing the Wolfoo channel’s viewership from billions of monthly views and protecting Peppa Pig’s brand, which generates over $1 billion annually and airs in 180 countries.
