PepsiCo warehouse targeted in arson attack in Matamoros

Industrias PepsiCo, the manufacturer of Sabritas, was targeted in an arson attack at its warehouse on Avenida Marte in Matamoros, Tamaulipas. The incident, which occurred in the early hours of July 27, resulted in significant damage to the facilities and the destruction of approximately fifty vehicles.

While the state prosecutor's office initially denied involvement by organized crime, it later acknowledged that the fire was intentionally set. Authorities also denied that the attack was linked to extortion or 'cobro de piso'. Despite the scale of the destruction, PepsiCo has maintained a cautious public stance and has moved to immediately replace its vehicle fleet and restore daily operations in the region, countering rumors of a potential withdrawal from Tamaulipas.
