Peradeniya Bridge renovation stalled by Kandy City Plan delays
The Sri Lanka Railway Station Masters' Association (SLRSMA) has reported that renovation work on the Peradeniya Bridge is stalled due to administrative delays involving the Kandy City Plan. Authorities have indicated that the reconstruction will not proceed until issues regarding the urban planning project are resolved.
The Peradeniya Bridge is a critical link in the national railway network, connecting the hill country to the rest of the island. The SLRSMA expressed concerns that the delay poses risks to passenger safety, operational reliability, and the efficiency of train services in the Central Province. The association is calling for the government to decouple the bridge repairs from the broader city planning disputes to ensure the structural integrity of the infrastructure.
