Perak Customs seizes RM313,000 in illicit liquor during raids

The Royal Malaysian Customs Department (JKDM) Perak has seized illicit liquor and beer in two separate raids conducted in July, with total duties and taxes estimated to exceed RM313,000.

The first raid took place on July 17 at a commercial premises in Banting, Selangor. Authorities discovered various brands of uncustomed liquor, including products labeled 'Malaysia Duty Not Paid' (MDNP)—which are restricted to duty-free zones—and items using suspected counterfeit tax stamps. A 70-year-old local man was detained during this operation. The value of the seizure in this instance was estimated at approximately RM269,000.

The second raid occurred on July 20 at a residential premises in Simpang, Taiping, where various brands of uncustomed beer were discovered. The estimated value of duties and taxes for this seizure exceeded RM43,000.

Both cases are being investigated under Section 135(1)(d) of the Customs Act 1967. If convicted, offenders face penalties under Section 135(1)(v)(aa) of the same Act.
