Perak explores large-scale AI data center development

Perbadanan Kemajuan Negeri Perak (PKNPk) and Global Vision Lab Sdn Bhd (GVL) are exploring a proposal to develop a large-scale artificial intelligence (AI) data center in Perak, Malaysia. The project is planned to have a power capacity exceeding 100 megawatts (MW).

The initiative aims to meet the rising demand for AI computing, high-performance computing (HPC), and graphics processing unit (GPU) based applications within Malaysia and the broader ASEAN region. To facilitate the project, both parties have signed a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) and a Letter of Consent to allow for the exchange of information and preliminary research into technical, infrastructural, and commercial aspects.

PKNPk Chief Executive Datuk Redza Rafiq stated that the exploration aligns with the state government's efforts to expand its economic growth base through high-value technology activities. The project is expected to support the Perak Sejahtera 2030 aspiration, potentially positioning the state as a high-tech digital infrastructure destination. Potential benefits include the creation of high-skilled jobs, strengthening the local technology supply chain, and expanding AI usage in sectors such as manufacturing and logistics.
