Perak haze reaches API reading of 153

Haze conditions have been detected in parts of Perak, with one Air Pollutant Index (API) reading reaching 153. Teh Kok Lim, Chairman of the State Science, Environment, and Green Technology Committee, has advised the public to reduce outdoor activities and remain vigilant.

While the current levels are not yet classified as hazardous, authorities are monitoring the situation in collaboration with local authorities, District and Land Offices, and relevant agencies. Besides Perak, haze has also affected Sabah and Sarawak, with conditions appearing more severe in Sarawak.

Officials noted that while open burning is strictly prohibited, some individuals continue the practice during dry weather. Regarding potential transboundary haze from neighboring countries, Teh stated that cooperation exists to ensure prevention measures are implemented, emphasizing that environmental quality issues transcend national borders. As of now, no special instructions regarding school students have been issued.
