Perak State Assembly passes remuneration bill for assembly members
The Perak State Legislative Assembly has unanimously passed the Administrative Members and State Assembly Members (Remuneration) Bill 2026. Presented by Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad, the bill aims to modernize, reorganize, and streamline legal provisions regarding the remuneration of administrative members and state assembly members.
According to Saarani, the existing enactment has been in effect since 1980 and has undergone 13 amendments. The new bill seeks to provide clearer and more organized provisions aligned with current legislative drafting methods. Key improvements include increasing the maximum monthly pension rate from 50 to 60 percent of salary, following reviews and comparisons with federal and other state provisions.
