Perak state expands welfare programs for students and low-income groups
The Perak state government has expanded its welfare initiatives to support students and low-income families. Under the Mahasiswa Perak Sejahtera (MPS) 2030 program, 1,000 students from five universities—including Universiti Sultan Azlan Shah (USAS), Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP), and Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI)—will receive RM200 per month in food assistance. The aid is distributed via e-wallets for use at designated campus food kiosks, prioritizing students from families earning RM1,500 or less.
Separately, the Perak Sejahtera Card provides RM100 monthly to asnaf and target groups to assist with basic food expenses. The state has allocated RM24.5 million for the program's 2026 implementation, aiming for 21,000 recipients, with over 20,000 beneficiaries recorded as of April 2026.
In a corporate social responsibility effort, Mahsuri Dagang Sdn. Bhd. donated 600 units of soy sauce to support the Dapur Siswa Madani operations at Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM). This initiative aims to assist approximately 300 low-income students by supporting community kitchen facilities designed to reduce student living costs.
