Perbasi suspends Central Java basketball coach for 10 years over violence

The Indonesian Basketball Association (Perbasi) has issued a 10-year suspension to a coach in Central Java following allegations of violence against players. The decision, made through Perbasi’s Legal, Ethics, and Discipline Body, prohibits the individual from participating in any basketball activities under the organization's auspices.

Perbasi Chairman Budisatrio Djiwandono stated that the sanction is a measure to protect athletes and instructed regional administrators across Indonesia to proactively investigate any indications of violence in coaching. If a court issues a final legally binding verdict finding the coach guilty, Perbasi may move to permanently revoke the individual's coaching license.

Vice Chairman Christopher Tanuwidjaja emphasized that violence, including verbal abuse, is unacceptable and reflects a failure in leadership and communication. He noted that fear is not a substitute for respect and warned that such methods can lead to resistance rather than discipline. The organization aims to create a safe ecosystem for player development through professional coaching standards.
