Percy Fiestas Aquino reports extortion and death threats in Piura

Percy Fiestas Aquino, the mayor-elect of the Veintiséis de Octubre district in Piura, has reported receiving death threats and extortion attempts targeting him and his family.

According to the reports, Fiestas Aquino’s mother received intimidating videos and images of firearms on her mobile device. The messages allegedly demand monthly payments to prevent attacks on his life. The communications reportedly mention a criminal organization known as ‘La Nueva Generación del Norte’ and an individual referred to as ‘El Gran Franco.’

Fiestas Aquino has formally filed a complaint with the Criminal Investigation Division (Divincri) and surrendered the mobile device for investigation. While the National Police have increased patrols near his residence, the candidate has requested urgent and prioritized security measures for himself and his family. This incident follows a previous assassination of the former mayor, Víctor Hugo Febre Calle, in the same jurisdiction in May 2026.
