Pere Toshev, Macedonian revolutionary and educator

Pere Toshev was a prominent teacher and a founding member of the Macedonian Revolutionary Organization in the 19th century. Known as a quiet but persistent fighter for a free Macedonia, he played a key role in motivating progressive revolutionary youth.

Toshev was killed by Ottoman forces in May 1912 near Prilep after being detained in Bulgaria. His remains were eventually transferred to Prilep in September 1994 following a local initiative. He is currently interred in the courtyard of the Sveto Blagoveshchenie (Old Church) in Prilep, near his family home.
