Colombia earthquake recovery: Demolitions begin in Cali as Risaralda seeks aid
Following the magnitude 7.4 earthquake on August 10, Colombia is managing significant humanitarian and economic recovery efforts. The disaster has resulted in 331 deaths and 4,505 injuries nationwide.
In Cali, authorities have begun the controlled demolition of buildings severely damaged by the tremor. To protect neighboring structures, officials are using machinery rather than explosives. To combat this, a delegation of entrepreneurs is traveling to Madrid and Athens to seek new markets and international cooperation for reconstruction.
In Pereira, where over 35,000 homes were affected, efforts to revitalize the local economy include the 'Volveremos Fest'. This music festival, organized by artists Jhonny Rivera and Nanpa Básico, is scheduled for early October to stimulate tourism and commerce in the region.
