Pereira implements temporary vehicle restrictions for earthquake recovery
Authorities in Pereira, Colombia, have implemented a temporary vehicle restriction, known as 'pico y placa', starting Tuesday, August 18. This measure is designed to facilitate the movement of emergency services, rescue teams, and personnel engaged in demolition and debris removal following a recent earthquake.
The restriction applies to private four-wheeled vehicles based on their license plate numbers. Vehicles with even-numbered plates are restricted on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, while those with odd-numbered plates are restricted on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. The restrictions are in effect from 6:00 AM to 8:00 PM, though no restrictions apply on Sundays. Motorcycles are exempt from this measure.
In a related effort to support recovery, the National Infrastructure Agency (ANI) has authorized toll-free passage for heavy machinery and vehicles transporting humanitarian aid across several major road corridors, including the Buga–Buenaventura and Armenia–Pereira–Manizales routes. This initiative aims to expedite the delivery of essential resources to affected communities.
