Pereira presents infrastructure and earthquake recovery plan

The Mayor of Pereira, Mauricio Salazar, presented a strategic mobility and reconstruction plan to the Minister of Transport, Elsa Noguera. The proposal focuses on infrastructure reactivation and addressing damages caused by a recent earthquake.

Official reports indicate that the seismic event affected 107,000 people, including 45,000 households, resulting in a severe housing and public infrastructure emergency. Approximately 4,200 homes sustained structural damage. The municipality has allocated $25,000 million for initial response and demolitions, requesting support from the national government’s ‘Fondo Milagro’ to continue these essential works.

Key strategic projects discussed include the second phase of Avenida Los Colibríes, the second lane of Avenida del Río, a second line for the Megacable, and improvements to the Matecaña International Airport.
