Perennial gardening: Tips for plant division and sedum care

Dividing perennials in the autumn—ideally from late August to mid-October—can rejuvenate old clumps that have become woody or sparse. Gardeners should avoid automatic fertilization, especially after heavy rain, as waterlogging can mimic nutrient deficiency. Instead, soil should be allowed to dry to see if the plant recovers on its own.
