Perfect Dark leaked gameplay footage surfaces after cancellation

Leaked footage has surfaced online showing gameplay from the canceled Perfect Dark reboot, which was being developed by Xbox's The Initiative. The clips, reportedly sourced from the portfolio of VFX artist Tracey Landau, showcase various development stages, including weapon testing in greybox environments, parkour traversal, enemy detection mechanics, and environmental destruction.

Originally announced at the 2020 Game Awards, the project was ultimately canceled during a major Xbox restructuring in 2025. Reports indicate that the game might have been saved if a financing deal with Take-Two Interactive had been finalized, but negotiations between Microsoft, Embracer, and Take-Two ultimately failed.

While the footage shows a level of polish below what was expected for a 'AAAA' title, it provides a rare look at the intended direction of the gameplay and technical features, such as advanced fruit destruction and sci-fi weaponry.
