Performers cancel Lisbon festival appearances over Jerry Seinfeld
Several performers have withdrawn from the Commedia a La Carte Fest in Lisbon, citing solidarity with the Palestinian cause. Comedians Cebola Mol and Inês Aires Pereira announced their cancellations on September 5, following the withdrawal of other acts including the 'Tributo Pop' show and Conjunto Cuca Monga.
While not always naming him directly, the performers' statements link their decisions to the presence of American comedian Jerry Seinfeld on the festival lineup. Seinfeld, the event's headliner, has publicly expressed support for Israel during the ongoing conflict in Gaza. Inês Aires Pereira stated that she could not participate in a festival featuring an artist whose positions she considers incompatible with her principles, noting that “we cannot relativize or normalize a genocide.”
The festival is scheduled to take place between October 29 and November 1.
