Pergamino authorities investigate poaching of ñandú

Authorities in Pergamino, Argentina, are investigating a case of poaching and trespassing following the killing of a three-year-old ñandú at the ‘El Tauro’ rural estate. The bird, which was raised from an egg by estate caretaker Raúl Fleitas, was pursued by greyhounds and killed by poachers.

Investigators reported that the perpetrators filmed the act, photographed themselves with the remains, and shared the images on social media. Following a police investigation led by the Pergamino prosecutor's office, raids were conducted at several locations. Officers seized evidence including feathers, the head, and the legs of the animal.
