Pergamino: Pet rhea killed by poachers in illegal hunt

A pet rhea, named ‘El Loco’, was killed by two trained greyhounds during an illegal poaching incident at the El Tauro estate in Pergamino, Buenos Aires province. The animal, which Raúl Antonio Fleitas had raised since hatching an egg in December 2022, was hunted on August 30.

Two individuals, Matías Matkovic (25) and Rubén Nahuel Martínez (31), have been identified as the suspects. According to reports, the perpetrators filmed and photographed the dead animal before butchering it. Although prosecutor Nelson Mastorchio requested their arrest, Judge Julio Caturla rejected the request, leading Fleitas to express profound disappointment with the judicial system.
