Perito Moreno Glacier shows unusual growth despite climate change

The Perito Moreno Glacier in Argentine Patagonia is exhibiting unique behavior compared to other glaciers worldwide. While most glaciers are retreating and melting rapidly due to climate change, Perito Moreno has maintained a state of equilibrium for approximately half a century.

Research conducted since 1971 indicates that the glacier is not melting; instead, it has shown slight increases in ice mass. Located in Los Glaciares National Park near El Calafate, the glacier measures roughly 30 kilometers in length and 5 kilometers in width, rising 70 meters above Lake Argentino.

Despite its stability, scientists are still investigating the exact reasons for its resilience against global warming trends. The glacier remains a major tourist attraction, known for spectacular natural phenomena such as large chunks of ice breaking off and crashing into the lake.
