Inflation trends show deceleration in Buenos Aires and rise in Chile

Inflation rates in Buenos Aires and Chile showed varying trends in August 2026. In the City of Buenos Aires, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) experienced a significant deceleration, falling to 1.7% from 2.9% in July. This represents the lowest monthly increase in a year. The deceleration was largely driven by a 2.9% drop in seasonal prices, such as tourism and travel services, following the winter holidays. However, core inflation remained slightly higher at 2.1%, with notable increases in housing, food, and health sectors.

In Chile, the CPI rose by 0.6% in August, marking an acceleration compared to July's 0.1% increase. This brings the year-to-date inflation to 3.6% and the annual rate to 4.1%. The upward pressure was primarily driven by food and beverage increases (1.4%) and transportation costs (1.6%), specifically influenced by rising prices for potatoes, beef, and international airfare.
