Perledo rockfall triggers traffic restrictions on SP 72
A rockfall occurred on the SP 72 road in Perledo, Italy, near the Malpensata area between the roundabout and the tunnel. The incident, which took place during the early hours of Wednesday, October 7, 2026, involved rock masses weighing approximately 40 to 50 quintals.
The existing rockfall protection barriers successfully contained the debris, preventing it from reaching the roadway extensively, though one support pole was damaged and the barriers were deformed. Personnel from the Province of Lecco and specialized climbers have been deployed to inspect the slope and the integrity of the protection systems.
To facilitate safety inspections and consolidation work on the slope, traffic on the SP 72 is currently restricted to alternating one-way flow, regulated by traffic lights. The restriction is in place to allow workers to operate safely while maintaining a connection for residents and local activities along the eastern shore of Lake Como.
