Perlis tourism surges as visitor numbers approach 5.5 million
Perlis has transitioned from a mere transit point for travelers heading to Langkawi into a major tourism destination. Following the Covid-19 pandemic, the state has seen a significant surge in visitor numbers. Statistics show an increase from 2.99 million tourists in 2022 to an estimated 5.12 million in 2025, with projections suggesting over 5.5 million visitors by the end of the year.
The state's natural attractions, including limestone hills and paddy fields, have become primary draws. This growth has significantly benefited the local economy, particularly the homestay sector. The number of homestays has grown from fewer than ten to 331. If half of these establishments generate at least RM36,000 annually, total industry revenue could exceed RM6 million.
In response to this rapid development, the state government has launched the ‘Visit Perlis Year’ (TMPs) 2024/2025 agenda to further promote the region.
