Permian Basin infrastructure expands with new gas plants and water management efforts

Targa Resources has announced plans to expand its footprint in the Permian Delaware Basin by constructing three natural gas processing plants—Wrangler, Ranger, and Ranger II—and a new 70-mile pipeline. The new facilities are expected to provide a combined processing capacity of 825 million cubic feet per day and are slated to begin operations in the first half of 2028. Additionally, Targa has secured 20-year agreements with ExxonMobil units for gathering and processing services in the region.

Parallel to infrastructure expansion, the Permian Basin is seeing increased focus on managing produced water. Industry leaders noted that the region currently produces approximately 21 million barrels of water per day, a volume projected to reach 28 million barrels by 2036. To address disposal constraints, Texas Pacific Land and Texas Pacific Water Resources have opened a treatment and research facility in Orla. This facility aims to repurpose treated water for uses such as agriculture, construction, and land restoration.
