Permian Basin innovations boost US energy independence plans

A recent record‑setting federal lease sale in New Mexico underscores the administration’s push for more domestic energy development.

Chevron and Microsoft have signed a 20‑year agreement, Project Kilby, to build a Microsoft‑operated data center powered by approximately 2.67 GW of natural‑gas‑derived electricity from the basin. The project forecasts 2,000 permanent jobs and more than $10 billion in state and local tax revenue, with the first power expected in 2028.
