Perín celebrates 26th patron saint festival with traditional donkey hoisting

The Cartagena district of Perín celebrated the 26th edition of its patron saint festivities, highlighted by the traditional hoisting of a papier-mâché donkey named Lucero to the church bell tower. The event, which commemorates a local legend, drew hundreds of residents and visitors to the town square.

The celebrations included a parade of themed floats, such as 'Jurassic Perín' and 'Egypt', accompanied by the Cartagena 1990 Musical Group performing traditional pasodobles. Local officials, including the Councilor for Citizen Participation and Festivities, Francisca Martínez, and the President of the Municipal Board, Pepi Pérez, participated in the proceedings.

Due to a high risk of forest fires in the region, the local Neighborhood Association made the decision to suspend the traditional end-of-festival fireworks display as a safety precaution.
