Pernambuco adds new intensive care and maternity units to hospitals

The state of Pernambuco inaugurated a new Intermediate Care Unit (UCI), formerly known as the "Sala Laranja," at the Hospital da Restauração in Recife. The renovation, costing R$ 1.2 million, is part of a broader R$ 168 million hospital requalification program. Vice‑governor Priscila Krause, representing Governor Raquel Lyra, highlighted upgrades such as a high‑efficiency air‑filtration system, new monitors, respirators, an accessible bathroom and modernized electrical, gas and hydraulic infrastructure.

On the same day, the federal Ministry of Education delivered a new combined maternity accommodation at the Hospital das Clínicas of the Federal University of Pernambuco (HC‑UFPE). The ceremony was attended by MEC executive secretary Rodolfo de Carvalho Cabral and UFPE rector Alfredo Gomes. The project, funded through the Novo PAC Education program, is one of several investments totaling over R$ 116 million at UFPE, aimed at modernising hospital facilities, including a future pediatric intensive‑care unit and a renovated university theatre.

Both initiatives are intended to improve patient care, expand capacity and modernise health‑service infrastructure in Pernambuco.
