Pernambuco audits uncover multimillion‑real contract irregularities in municipal spending

Pernambuco's Court of Accounts (TCE‑PE) triggered a fiscal alert on the city of Gravatá's planned São João 2026 celebrations after the Public Prosecutor’s Office identified contracts for three performances – Bell Marques (R$800 k), Raphaela Santos (R$350 k) and the duo Sirano & Sirino (R$150 k) – that exceed the agency’s spending thresholds. The prosecutor ordered the municipality to submit all procurement documents within five days.

In a separate audit, TCE‑PE found more than R$16 million in losses in the Recife municipal education department under mayor João Campos. The report cites overpricing of solar‑panel installations in schools (prices 102.93 % above unit cost), premature and duplicate payments, and unauthorized subcontracting involving Consórcio Sienergy and ALCA Engenharia. The audit recommends reimbursement, sanctions and possible disqualification of the firms.
