Pernambuco election results show defeats for established local politicians

The recent elections in Pernambuco resulted in the election of 49 state deputies and 25 federal deputies, leading to a shift in the legislative landscape. Several prominent political figures with established careers in municipal government failed to secure direct seats, instead landing in the runner-up positions.

Notable former mayors who did not win their bids for federal deputy include Miguel Coelho of Petrolina, Renildo Calheiros of Olinda, Célia Sales of Ipojuca, Jorge Alexandre of Camaragibe, and Yves Ribeiro of Paulista. Miguel Coelho received 102,595 votes, positioning him as the first substitute for his brother, Fernando Filho, who was re-elected.
