Pernambuco government organizes slate for Sinpol elections amid salary dispute
The government of Raquel Lyra is organizing a slate to contest the leadership of the Pernambuco Civil Police Union (Sinpol) in elections scheduled for September 1 and 2. This political maneuvering occurs during a standoff between the state administration and civil police officers regarding a court-ordered workload adjustment. The officers claim this decision represents a 33% salary increase, and dissatisfaction over the implementation of this ruling has increased pressure on the state government.
Separately, in Piauí, the Civil Police Union (Sinpolpi) is preparing for elections on August 28 to define its Executive Board and Fiscal Council for the 2026-2030 term. Current president Isaac Vilarinho, who is running for reelection with a single slate, has called for high voter turnout to ensure the minimum quorum required by the statute is met, noting that failure to reach the threshold would necessitate subsequent election rounds.
