Pernambuco leads Brazilian economic and retail growth

Pernambuco is experiencing significant economic expansion, outperforming both the Brazilian national average and other states in the Northeast region. According to data from the Northeast Technical Office for Economic Studies (Etene) of Banco do Nordeste, the state's economy grew 3.6% in the 12 months ending in July 2026. This growth rate is more than double the national average of 1.5%.

The state also leads Brazil in retail growth for 2026. Data from the IBGE Monthly Trade Survey indicates that between January and August, restricted retail sales in Pernambuco grew by 10%, while expanded retail grew by 8.8%. These figures represent the highest growth rates in the country, significantly surpassing the national average of 1.7% for both segments.

In addition to broader economic indicators, regional investments remain strong. Banco do Nordeste reported financing R$ 7.8 billion in Pernambuco during 2025, with an additional R$ 4.3 billion provided between January and July 2026.
